In Dragon Age 2 how do you put the upgraded companion armor on the companion?

I'm on the first year now and I have Carvers upgrade but I can't find it in the inventory. How do you place it on them? :/In Dragon Age 2 how do you put the upgraded companion armor on the companion?
As soon as you get companion armor upgrades, they go on the companion automatically. yuo can unpgrade but you wont be able to see the upgrade
